Kamil Chow Home

It is very important that you socialize your new Chow Chow puppy to as many new experiences as possible while they are growing up.

Make sure not to take your puppy out to explore new places until they have completed their vaccination schedule at around 4 months of age.

Until your Chow Chow puppy is old enough to explore away from home, you can provide excellent socialization experiences every day at home. While your puppy was with me, their breeder, I exposed them to a variety of household sounds and experiences. You may want to continue this by using a dog socialization playlist, calming sound recordings, or YouTube videos featuring common noises such as traffic, thunderstorms, children, grooming tools, and other animals.

Other opportunities abound as well, so be creative. Introduce your puppy to different surfaces in and around your home, household appliances, the vacuum cleaner, new scents, dog-safe toys, other pets, family members, televisions, radios, grooming routines, collars and leashes, short car rides, and other everyday experiences. Chow Chows can naturally be more reserved than some breeds, so early positive socialization is especially important to help them grow into confident, well-adjusted adults.

Once your Chow Chow puppy has completed their vaccinations, the fun really begins! You can join puppy play groups, attend puppy training or obedience classes, visit pet stores, meet family and friends, arrange doggy play-dates, explore dog-friendly parks, or even try doggy daycare if your puppy enjoys social interaction.

The more positive socialization opportunities that you offer your Chow Chow puppy while they are young, the more confident, calm, and well-socialized your adult Chow Chow is likely to become.
