Chow Chows are a high-maintenance grooming breed due to their thick double coat. Regular grooming is important to prevent matting, reduce shedding, and keep the skin and coat healthy. Particular attention should also be given to cleaning the ears, brushing the dense fur, and trimming the nails.
Ears: General Cleaning
Product: Oticbliss Ear Flush Cleanser
Step 1: Fill ear canal with cleanser
Step 2: Gently massage the ear
Step 3: Allow your Chow Chow to shake its head
Step 4: Use cotton balls to remove dirt and debris from the ear canal
Repeat every 2 to 4 weeks, as needed, for general ear cleaning.

Ears: Excess Wax
Product: Zymox Ear Solution
Step 1: Fill ear canal with solution
Step 2: Massage the ear gently
Step 3: Leave the solution in the ear. DO NOT clean the ears during the treatment period unless directed by a veterinarian.
Repeat daily for 7–10 days, then use as needed if regular cleansing is not enough to maintain clean ears.

Coat: Brushing
Product: Slicker Brush, Undercoat Rake, or Deshedding Tool
Brush thoroughly through the thick double coat, paying close attention to the neck, legs, tail, and undercoat to remove loose fur and prevent mats.
Repeat brushing 2 to 4 times weekly. During shedding season, daily brushing is recommended.

Product: Dog Shampoo and Conditioner (any quality brand)
Step 1: Thoroughly soak the coat with warm water
Step 2: Apply shampoo and massage deeply through the thick coat
Step 3: Rinse completely
Step 4: Apply conditioner if desired
Step 5: Towel dry and blow dry thoroughly to prevent moisture from remaining in the dense coat
Repeat every 4 to 6 weeks, or as needed.
